Etching for Beginners

Date: 2/6 - 7-9PM, 2/8 - 6-9PM, 2/10 - 10AM-1PM

Revisit the time when artists and scientists held the same status! Formative etching artists, their societal roles, and how etching prints were produced will be explored. Students will become familiar with printmaking ways of thinking, and etching terminology for this 500 year-old art form. Using 21st C photo emulsion films, students will progress quickly to making a 4” x 5” solar plate etching of their own.

Class limited to 5 students.

Barbara S. Mogel was trained in the 500 year-old techniques of etching printmaking, and also scientific illustration, leading to a career in museum design. She is now interested in “green” printmaking techniques and exploring new ways to visualize scientific concepts.
