Karin Spitfire is an artist who chooses her medium to match her need for expression. Starting out as a dancer and performance artist, Spitfire’s current major forms are poetry and artist books that lend themselves to the use of movement, words and all manner of image making, including panting, printmaking, and letterpress printing.

Spitfire has studied book arts at USM with Rebecca Goodale, at Haystack and Penland with Eileen Wallace, as well as Japanese paper making at Haystack, painting with Joy Vaughan, printmaking with Dina Petrillo, and writing with Barbara Maria.

Spitfire is the author of "Standing with Trees" and "Wild Caught", a poetry chapbook. Her poetry has been published in numerous print and online literary magazines, and she was Poet Laureate of Belfast, ME in 2007-8. Spitfire has had a long career as a body worker and movement therapist specializing in utilizing the body-mind connection for healing and expression.
