MARIA ALEXIA PLATIA

Maria Alexia is a Greek designer who graduated with a BFA in Industrial Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. She is currently a boatbuilding apprentice and is project-leading the build of a 38ft Irish Sailing Yacht called the Dublin Bay 24. She is also pursuing her own practice.

She has worked with sculptors and furniture designers such as Christopher Kurtz and was part of the Design, Development, and Manufacturing Team at O&G Studio. She co-taught a Maritime Skills class at the Apprenticeshop to students from the alternative education program of Oceanside High School. She has also been a guest-lecturer and critic at RISD.

In an attempt to re-invigorate the presence of Steel House in the local creative community and draw in more talent, she renovated the interior of Steel House North with fellow artist and designer Kate Dannessa. She created the new website for Steel House and is currently co-organizing its 5th annual Holiday Pop-Up Shop.
